Probably late August or early September, 1961, a brand new member of the Rochelle Township High School marching band cornet section, ready for the autumn marching season to begin. Falling leaves and football would soon be in the air.
This picture illustrates some comments I have previously made here. Besides the band uniform with its memories of marching, both in parade and on the football field, note the low stone wall along the driveway behind me and the abundant moon flower (datura) overwhelming the top of the wall.
If you look closely you might also perceive the squinty, cold eyes of a teenager who doesn’t really want to have his picture taken. But I’m glad now that my father ignored my protests.
