The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918

Here’s a salute to “the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month”, and to a million or more 11th hours — Armistices, Truces, Treaties — that at best have brought a pause, some longer, some shorter, in what we would rather was never begun.

And a salute of gratitude as well, to the people, the men and women young and old, whose bodies and lives have served each time to bring to us that day’s 11th hour; with a prayer for those now at risk, seeking our next 11th hour.

May we attain, someday, a lasting 11th hour.
