Very, Very Bright

On display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago:

100,000 watt light bulb

100,000 watt light bulb

This bulb sits amidst a collection of historical electrical devices and demonstrations — Van De Graaff generators and Jacob’s ladders and plasma globes, antique radios and light bulbs, and the like. The exhibit doesn’t say why this bulb was created, or if it was ever used. But I think I’m glad that it wasn’t turned on when I saw it.
