While floating on the West Fork River on a Thursday evening …

Northern Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa), Clarksburg, West Virginia, USA, 1 June 2023

The tree was lovely from a distance, so I decided to get a closer look.

Rambling Rector Rose

Rambling Rector Rose

Our Rambling Rector Rose climbing into the Sweetgum tree (Liquidambar styraciflua) in front of the house. This is a climbing rose that produces small, white flowers in late spring or early summer. Some descriptions say that they produce large clumps of white blooms continuously from late spring through the summer. So far ours has bloomed only for a week or so in late spring each year. The plant is only 4 years old — perhaps it hasn’t reached its mature potential. But even so, the flowers are lovely.
